The Japanese IT services group is deepening its bet on India’s AI buildout, according to Indiatimes.

NTT Data has committed $1.5 billion to its India expansion, according to a report from Indiatimes, as the company moves to grow its AI data center capacity in the country. The commitment is aimed at building out infrastructure to support rising AI workloads, the report said.

NTT Data is the data center and IT-services arm of Japan’s NTT Group, one of the larger global operators in the space. The Indiatimes report did not detail individual site locations or a completion timeline for the new commitment, only the scale of the investment and its focus on AI-ready capacity in India.

The commitment adds to a broader wave of hyperscaler and IT-services spending on Indian data center capacity, as providers compete to secure land, power, and grid connections ahead of expected AI compute demand in the region.

What it means for operators: A fast, AI-driven capacity build-out puts pressure on power and cooling infrastructure well before workloads go live. AI racks run at far higher densities than typical enterprise IT, and new capacity coming online in clusters strains local power availability and cooling headroom.
